"IT security was never high on our agenda. But we soon realized that our online security could and should be better." With that clear need, Van Moer Logistics came to us. That's why we presented them our (then) brand new Modern Workplace Advise service. A proposal that Van Moer jumped into as eagerly as we did.
With some 2,400 employees in Belgium and Germany, Van Moer Logistics is the one-stop shop for logistics services. With a wide range of services and a diverse customer base, a sustainable IT vision is also crucial. That's why Van Moer relies not only on their internal IT team, but also on our services to support their own experts.
When they were looking for a solution to increase cyber security, we suggested our new service: Modern Workplace Advise. At the time, this service only existed in beta, but Van Moer almost immediately volunteered as a test company.
"Because we are a logistics service provider, IT security was never high on our agenda. But we soon realized that our online security could and should be better," says Joris Emanuel, IT manager at Van Moer. "When Arxus proposed to participate in a test case for Modern Workplace Advise, we didn't hesitate. It was a fantastic opportunity to improve our security. Moreover, we could invest in tools that our employees might not otherwise have access to."
The extensive number of Microsoft 365 services within your license bundle will be open by default to encourage use of the services, experiment with all the features and apps, and link other SaaS services. The goal is to facilitate collaboration with everyone as much as possible.
That freedom obviously comes with a downside: the increased number of security risks.
"I always compare Modern Workplace Advise to the security of your home. If you leave a door open, thieves can always get in," says Kevin Meuldermans, our Modern Workplace Specialist. “With Modern Workplace Advise, we close that door and provide extra locks so that it’s harder to get in. Those extra lines of defense make it a lot harder for people with bad intentions."
The impact of security breaches is often huge for both customers and the company itself. Especially for companies with a large customer base like Van Moer. The logistics sector is not necessarily more vulnerable to cyberattacks compared to other sectors, but the danger of phishing or malware attacks remain a serious threat to them as well.
"That's why we performed a Modern Workplace Scan of their IT environment. Afterwards, we set up a roadmap together, with recommendations for the short and (medium) long term," Kevin explains. "There, we focus primarily on large security gaps and optimization of the settings on the Microsoft 365 services they use today. Think, for example, of reviewing certain rights or securing their digital identities and email system."
With our predetermined roadmap, we try to limit the impact on Van Moer as much as possible. We discuss progress and critical points in the process extensively in monthly meetings before they come into effect.
"The guidance of Arxus is a real added value for us", says Jan De Laet, System Coordinator at Van Moer. "For example, when we’re going to implement changes or suddenly scan attachments or links in emails, they help us to communicate those actions clearly to our employees (mostly non-IT people). This way you create an understanding among the users and avoid a lot of angry phone calls if a certain program suddenly works differently than before."
"I no longer see the employees of Arxus as external partners, but just as extra colleagues," Jan continues. "They are involved and reliable and dare to make difficult decisions. Take Modern Workplace Advise, for example. We were blind in terms of security, but thanks to Arxus we see a little better every day."
And Kevin agrees completely. "I would describe our cooperation as one that has a lot of progress, runs constructively and where there is a mutual understanding. There is a great drive to get the best out of it. In addition, Van Moer is always enthusiastic about everything we propose, which makes us want to do even better."
In the meantime, our Modern Workplace Advise service has passed all the test phases. And is available to the public.
