From Cloud Engineer to Team Lead: Levy’s Unique Process

That is precisely why we want to put the unique process of Levy Mannaerts in the spotlight. You can read below how he grew from Cloud Engineer to Team Lead at Arxus in just six months. 

Your network is a gateway to opportunities. The journey of Levy, the Team Lead of our engineers dedicated to Azure, is yet another clear demonstration of this. Through a mutual acquaintance with our Managing Partner Erlend Schenkels, he stumbled upon Arxus for the first time. 

“I was not really looking for a new workplace at that time, but out of curiosity, I went to find out what Arxus is doing, what they stand for, what technologies they work with... That interested and stimulated me,” says Levy. “Those technologies, mostly Azure, just happened to be the direction I wanted to go, and behold, here we are.”

The Arxus attitude

Nevertheless, the corporate culture, to which we attach significant importance at Arxus, was also a significant factor in Levy’s choice for our company. “The company culture and Arxus attitude were already tangible during the entire application process, and that has always stayed with me,” Levy continues. 

“The first interview was not only filled with technical questions but was very pleasant and personal. Later, there was a technical test, something I had not previously had to do with any other employer during their selection process. The technical test was not only an enjoyable challenge for me, but it also confirmed that I would be part of a team of enthusiastic and competent individuals.” 

From Cloud Engineer to Team Lead

Meanwhile, Levy finds himself on the opposite side of the table during job interviews. Just six months into his role as a Cloud Engineer within Customer Ops, our operational team, he quickly ascended to the position of Team Lead for the Azure-focused engineers. Helping to recruit new potential Arxus Heroes is now an important part of his duties. 

“I had already experienced a taste of leadership at a previous employer, serving as a backup Team Lead. In combination with my five years of experience in IT and people skills, I think it was a logical next step, even though the opportunity at Arxus presented itself sooner than I had anticipated,” Levy explains. 

“A year on, I'm glad I embraced the challenge of becoming a Team Lead. In a sense, my role now offers even more diversity than when I was a Cloud Engineer. Apart from the combination of technical work and people management, I am even more involved in dialogues that cover broader aspects than just our projects at Customer Ops. That, in turn, helps my team become even better at what we do.”

Become who you want to be

It’s our goal at Arxus to make progress like Levy's more than just a rarity. On the contrary, we even encourage it. That is why we always provide our employees with access to numerous training courses, workshops, interesting lectures, or informative sessions, enabling them to continually enhance their soft and hard skills.  

“At Arxus, you are given the freedom to become the person you aspire to be,” says Levy. “That is also what attracted me to Arxus and continues to appeal to me today. This way, I intend to continually grow in the technical field, the reason I joined Arxus, as well as in my people management skills. In doing so, I can keep both options open or continue to combine them and stay on top of my game.”
