In a previous blog, we already gave an extensive anthology about all the advantages of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). Now we would like to elaborate on the fantastic integration possibilities of AVD - with Azure, of course - but also with other Microsoft technologies such as Office 365. This gives you, among other things, the advantage that, thanks to single sign-on (SSO), you have easy access to everything with one account.
Recently Microsoft changed the name of Windows Virtual Desktop to Azure Virtual Desktop. This, of course, to further emphasize how well the system is embedded in Azure. You can easily install and extend your Windows desktops and applications through Azure in a matter of minutes. You get the embedded security and compliance features for free.
Azure Virtual Desktop is optimized for Microsoft 365. This gives the end user access to his or her familiar Windows environment via the cloud. In the past, not all possibilities were available via Remote Services, but thanks to Azure Virtual Desktop, today there are no restrictions at all.
In other words, AVD offers one solution for Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online and other Microsoft services. And since the platform runs on Azure, a big step has been taken in terms of speed and performance compared to more traditional remote desktop environments. For the best Office experience, choose Office 365 ProPlus, which is supported by Windows 10 multisessions.
Mandatory homeworking during the pandemic grew the success of Teams exponentially. The fact was, however, that Teams did not perform as well on a Windows Virtual Desktop. For example, it ran slower due to delays in data transfer, caused in part by AVD's virtualization layer. In the latest version of AVD, therefore, there has been a considerable improvement, so that now Microsoft Teams runs much more smoothly within an AVD environment.
Users can access the storage included in their Office 365 subscription instead of purchasing additional storage (Fileserver or Azure Files).
With the acquisition of the profile management technology FSLogix, AVD offers full support for the use of all Office 365 products. Thereby, the user profile including Office application data is stored. This ensures faster loading times when logging in. Also integrated are all security and management technologies from and by Microsoft 365. When you log on with FSLogix, everything runs much faster and the compatibility with Office 365, but also with OneDrive is significantly improved.
Jessa Hospital, one of the larger hospitals in Belgium with 900 beds and 3,500 employees, strongly believes in the benefits of Azure Virtual Desktop. The scalability of the cloud, the reduced licensing costs and the accessibility of applications from any device were the deciding factors for deploying the virtual desktop environment within the different campuses.

Microsoft has announced that as of Sept. 30, 2025, they will no longer support default outbound connectivity for virtual machines (VMs) and scale sets. And that obviously has significant implications for users who currently (still) rely on it. Wondering why Microsoft made this decision? And what
