In mid-April we welcomed Ben Delhaye and Senna Vertommen, two final year students Network and System Administration at the Thomas More Hogeschool Campus De Nayer. For 7 weeks, they did an internship with the Modern Workplace team. But how did that internship go? You can read it here.
Senna: We heard a lot of good things about The Cronos Group. Friends and acquaintances were doing internships here, the grandparents of my next-door neighbors worked with The Cronos Group... And this is the reason why we send emails to different companies within The Cronos Group.
Ben: Arxus was one of those companies. And one thing led to another.
Ben: We did research on the Hololens, how it can add value for customers and how this technology is already being applied in practice. For example, the Hololens is used in Imelda Hospital in Bonheiden to perform operations. During operations, doctors need a lot of documentation. Physically, these documents can be in the way and in addition you also lose a lot of time searching. Thanks to the Hololens, all documents are instantly available and they can operate at the same time. It is space saving and efficient.
Senna: Another sector in which the Hololens is used is construction. Thanks to this technology, architects can immediately see where electricity and pipes run. This provides tremendous added value.
Ben: The Hololens can easily be used when onboarding new employees. They put on the glasses and can access all the manuals to perform tasks. This way, less manpower needs to be used. In addition, you also have companies like Mr. Watts that create applications for the Hololens. And finally, there should also be companies that are in charge of managing and securing the glasses.
Senna: But the most important thing remains training employees. This is a very efficient and time-saving way. The Hololens has so much potential. More than we could explore in 7 weeks. In the future, every sector can use this technology. If only for interactive meetings.
Ben: Unfortunately, we only had 7 weeks to research this mixed-reality (MR) technology. There is so much more to explore.
Ben: Super! We have no complaints whatsoever.
Senna: Indeed. We've had great support. Every morning you have a stand-up with your team where everyone talks about what they are working on, what problems they are facing and how they can solve it.
Ben: And on top of that, we also met with our supervisor Kevin Meuldermans 3 times a week. Our internship was well followed up.
Senna: True. We always knew what to do. 3 times a week we made a schedule that we could follow. Here and there, of course, you run into a problem. But we didn't run into any big problems.
Ben: HR also did a good job for us. The onboarding went well. We got a very warm welcome on our first day of internship. They showed everything we needed to know. A good approach. For our final presentation, they also helped us. With great pleasure they made time for us.
Senna: We enjoyed the follow-up every time we had one. In case of problems, we were allowed to come by immediately.
Senna: Very good. Arxus is a very young and dynamic team and definitely not like a standard company. They are very open. In addition, they regularly organize very nice events. On Fridays from 4 pm onwards it is traditional to have a drink together to celebrate the end of the working week.
Ben: Indeed. You guys are up-to-date too. It's like a new company, even though you've been around for 14 years. It's also easy for new people to come in. You feel at home very quickly. When you come in, everyone says hello. It's a small gesture, but it makes your day.
Senna: Absolutely. A very cool work atmosphere with very nice employees.
Senna: We would like to thank Arxus for the opportunity we got here. Our internship assignment was a really cool topic. We got to know a great company.
Ben: And we did that with the "Merci chocolates" too.
